Presidential Stamp Sheet

Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the next President of Singapore?
He is Mr. Tan for sure!

The Singapore Presidential election will be held this Saturday, 27 August 2011. For the first time in our short history, we have four candidates contesting for the seat of Singapore's highest office. They are Dr. Tan Cheng Bock (ex veteran PAP MP), Mr. Tan Jee Say (ex high ranking civil servant turned investment advisor), Mr. Tan Kin Lian (ex CEO of NTUC Income) & Dr. Tony Tan (ex deputy PM). Coincidentally all four Presidential hopefuls bear the same surname of Tan.

As a hobbyist blog, I don't bicker about politics, so let me just pay tribute to all our former and outgoing Head of State.

Our Presidents in chronological order:

1965 - 1970  Mr. Yusof bin Ishak
1971 - 1981  Dr. Benjamin Henry Sheares
1981 - 1985  Mr. C.V. Devan Nair
1985 - 1993  Dr. Wee Kim Wee
1993 - 1999  Mr. Ong Teng Cheong
1999 - 2011  Mr. S.R. Nathan

As part of the Y2K millennium celebration and in conjuction with the release of Singapore's first portrait series banknotes, a line-up of numismatics and philately collectibles were produced bearing the portrait of Singapore's first President Yusof bin Ishak.

This stamp sheet is very different from an ordinary sheet. The stamps come in blocks of four separated by  columns that bear the Coat-of-Arms and flag of the President, the Y2K millennium logo and the names of the designer and engraver. This layout gives the entire sheet a flavour of class and stature, befitting of a President.

As far as I can remember, there's only one limited edition collectible that was ever issued to the public that bears the exclusive Coat-of-Arms and flag of the President of Singapore.

This is the first and only Presidential stamp sheet of Singapore, issued in the year of 2000, in very limited numbers. Extremely rare!
